American University, Washington DC, see the international student brochure along with the costs for the Certificate Program and the Graduate Gateway Program.
The Journalism program is a part of our Graduate Gateway Program. Next semester, this track will be called "The Changing World of News Media".
This is a one semester program (not a degree program) that incorporates three components. First, it allows the students to internship in Washington, DC for 3-4 days per week. Second, they participate in an interactive seminar for one full day per week, which combines traditional coursework with meeting experts in the field. Third, students enroll in a graduate elective course on AU's main campus. If you are a graduate student interested in coming for a full year, I would suggest that they attend the International Certificate, Journalism Program one semester and then the Graduate Gateway Program the second semester. This way the student leaves after a year having received a formal certificate one semester, 7 official AU graduate credits the next, a full-year AU transcript, and two internship experiences to put on their resume.
Concerning English fluency requirements: The scores must be a bit higher for the Graduate Gateway Program. For the International Certificate Program we require TOEFL of 80 and IELTS 6.5; for Grad Gateway, we require TOEFL 90, IELTS 7.0.
